After being kindly informed of a male Smew at Kirkby Gravel Pits, a trip between 1315 and 1430 hours to see it and have a look around was in order. As well as this Smew, I also noted 1 Little Egret, 1 Redshank, 371 Greylag geese including 1 hybrid as well as Tufted Duck, Pochard, Wigeon and Teal.
Then moved to North pit to look through the gulls whilst observing 2 Kestrels and 4 Goldeneye on Riverslea pit. With not many gulls about this afternoon, I noted 2 Goldeneye, 1 Shelduck, 4 Redshank, 5 Little Grebe, 4 Shoveler. Highlight here though were 2 Red Kites coasting over from 1510 hrs until I left at 1550 hours.
