Kirkby Gravel Pits, Lincolnshire. 13 January 2012

Before even venturing out this morning a skein of 30 Pink-footed Geese flew South over the house at 0900 with another skein of c80 heading South West at 0930.
A visit to North pit within the Kirkby gravel pit complex specifically to look through gulls off the landfill site produced c1000 Black-headed Gulls, c200 Herring Gulls, c50 Common Gulls and c30 Greater Black-backed Gulls but no rarities that I could identify. There was one Herring Gull with an orange colour ring on left lower leg, but it was so distant I could'nt get a good image or read the ring.
Other notables between 1015 and 1215 hours were 1 Grey Wagtail, 1 Green Sandpiper, 4 Redshank, 3 Egyptian Geese, 1 Snipe, 1 Common Buzzard and 6 Shoveler.
In a newly ploughed field at the back of the reserve, 1 Little Egret was amongst the gulls and c30 Lapwing.
