Great White Egret, Kirkby Gravel Pits, 11 December 2011

A visit to Kirkby gravel pits to see the Great White Egret that I dipped on last year was successful today. First views between 0950 and 1020 hours were distant as a few birders had gathered on the South pit area to view it perched in a tree at the back (East) of the reserve pit. However a bit of patience was rewarded when it came back across South pits and settled on the South West pit to feed from 1135 to 1200 hours.Great to meet all the birders and also noted 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Kestrel, 6 Shoveler, 3 Redshank, 3 Linnet, Teal, Tufted Duck, Pochard and the usual.
